  • Frequently Asked Questions

  • A bikepacking bike is lighter with endurance geometry and soft bag friendly mounts for mixed terrain, while a touring bike is optimised for racks, very high loads and long paved routes. Both go the distance, but bikepacking favours agility off road with lighter luggage.

Choose 700c if your routes include long road links and firm hardpack where rolling speed matters. Choose 650b if you ride rougher tracks or want larger volume tyres at lower pressures for comfort and control. Our current builds are supplied with 700c, with selected frames in the range compatible with 650b and offering clearance up to 50 mm, so you can match wheel size to terrain and load for the best result.

Most riders choose 40 to 45 mm on 700c for mixed routes because they roll well and add comfort. Our current builds are supplied with 40 or 45 mm tyres depending on model, with frame clearance up to 50 mm if you want more volume for rough or soft surfaces. Heavier loads and looser terrain benefit from wider rubber, while lighter set‑ups on firmer ground feel quicker on 40 to 42 mm.

Aim for low climbing gears that let you spin on steep grades with kit on the bike. A wide range 1x keeps things simple off road, while a compact 2x offers closer steps for rolling road sections. Your local terrain and preferred cadence decide which feels smoother over long days.

Use a frame bag for dense heavy items, a bar bag for light bulky kit and a seat pack for clothing, then keep tools and snacks in top tube or stem bags. Distribute weight low and central, secure straps to avoid sway and test your loaded set up on local loops before a trip.
